Drunk History posted a new video, about the life of Nikola Tesla. It’s enacted by John C. Reilly and Crispin Glover, narrated by a guy who pukes everywhere but surprisingly keeps the story pretty straight.

All this video would need to make me disintegrate from sheer joy would be Muppets.

Michael Cera Pulls a Christian Bale

When I was about 15 years old, I read a book called Youth in Revolt. I loved it because it was bawdy, sacrilegious, taboo, and angsty (the perfect formula for teenage literature). It struck me as bizarre that it was written by a middle-aged Harvard alum.

After rumors of a film version spanning almost a decade, it’s finally in production, starring Michael Cera (perfect casting).

In this video, Michael Cera flips out at the crew on set. Apparently he has behavioral issues, too.

I once met Eric Idle, who has been, for lack of a better word, an idol of mine for most of my life. It was at a cocktail party after a play, and instead of engaging him about how much I love his work, blah blah blah; I told him he must be the most comfortable person at the party. At this somewhat formal event, he was wearing a very expensive suit, and bright white sneakers. They really stood out. We proceeded to have quite a ripping conversation over very strong vodka cocktails. At least that was what I was drinking. I became quite drunk.

With that, I give you a video clip of Eric Idle speaking on the meticulous writing process of John Cleese. As a writer and a Python fan, this clip is a true gem. And apparently they got shitcanned during their writing sessions, which I find a hoot.

Typography + Wes Anderson = I need to get a REAL hobby

Blood of Christ H.S. Bus

I thought I was a weirdo for noticing how my favorite director, Wes Anderson, uses Futura so well all the time. And I never get tired of it. You might.

Then some rad dude wrote a whole blog post about Futura in The Royal Tenenbaums, with screen grabs from the DVD. It’s worth the read, if only to convince you that WA is one of those auteurs for whom nothing is too small not to notice.

BONUS POINTS if you can, in the comments, share how and when you saw the Royal Tenenbaums. I saw it 3 times in the theaters, all at the Laemmle in Pasadena, twice I paid, once I cried. It’s the scene with Chaz and Royal in the ambulance where A. Baldwin is narrating and all that shit. Gets me where it counts.

All-new Muppets Christmas special

For an event that happens once every ten years or so, tune in tonight to NBC at 8/7c for an all new Muppet Christmas Special. I had no idea about this until this morning. My day is made (Muppets + Flight of the Conchords = Crème Brûlée Up My Nose).

I watched the Muppet Family Christmas from 1987 so many times the VHS tape wore out.

Something I noticed last night while watching the debate is that if Bill Paxton were about 20 years older, a little fatter, and ran himself through a meat processor, he’d look a lot like John McCain.

Has anyone heard of any intentions on casting Paxton in a biopic?
